Let the Audi experts of DCH Millburn help!

When searching for a high-quality SUV/crossover that can carry all your gear while still getting great gas mileage, the Audi Q5 and Audi Q3 are two must-see vehicles. Both have the ability to carry up to five passengers, have an impressive amount of cargo room, and bring with them Audi's well-earned reputation for reliable and affordable luxury. Let's take a closer look at these two vehicles to see which one is best equipped to meet the many demands of your busy family!

While both the Audi Q5 and the Audi Q3 are smaller entries into the SUV/crossover class, the Q3 is rated as "small," while the Q5 is "compact." Both vehicles carry up to five passengers and have substantial backseat room. The compact nature of the Q5 makes for increased ease in navigating traffic and for squeezing into tight parking spaces, meaning a vehicle that may be most ideal for city dwellers or for those who commonly endure high-traffic transportation.

The Q3 features front wheel drive, while the Q5 has Audi's Quattro all wheel drive system as its default. This, along with its 4,400-pound towing rating, allows the Q5 to take on more rugged terrain and treacherous roadway conditions, meaning a vehicle that will get you where you need to be, no matter the circumstance.

Interior Features

Both the Audi Q5 and Q3 carry a number of features that are synonymous with luxury, such as heated front row seats, a navigation system, and Bluetooth pairing for your phone. However, the Audi Q3 goes a few steps further into the realm of total luxury. In addition to the previously mentioned features, the Q3 comes equipped with an auxiliary audio input jack, which can be a more reliable way to play music from your phone to your car stereo. It also features a rear-view camera, allowing for safer and more efficient backing up and parallel parking, as well as a keyless entry system, which saves you from digging through your pockets or purse to find your keys.

Both vehicles boast Audi's high-quality safety features, such as rain-sensing windshield wipers, brake assist technology, and a post-collision safety system, allowing your car to call for help if you can't. Only the Q3 features blind spot assistance, alerting you of a vehicle that you might not have seen on your own, whether in a blind spot or elsewhere around your vehicle. Though the Q5 does not offer this specific safety feature, it was tested by the NHTSA and received an overall 4 out of 5-star rating, with a full 5-star performance in side collisions.

The Audi Q5 neatly outperforms the Q3, although the difference is not incredibly dramatic. The Q5 delivers 220 horsepower in comparison to the Q3's 200, and 258 ft-lbs of torque to the Q3's 207. The two vehicles, however, get almost exactly the same gas mileage: 20 city/29 highway for the Q3 and 20 city/28 highway for the Q5. The Q5 does hold a larger tank of gas, however, meaning that you can go longer between fill-ups. The Q5's range is almost 70 miles greater in the city, and 60 miles greater on the highway.

While the Q3 has plenty of room for carrying the basics - around 16.7 cubic feet of space in the trunk - the Q5 clearly outperforms in this area, with 29.1 cubic feet of space to transport sports equipment, vacation luggage, camping supplies, and more. The Q5 also offers the option of folding down all seats for additional cargo space, while only the rearmost row of seating can be folded down in the Q3.

Price can play a great role in making a decision of which vehicle to purchase. There is a noticeable difference in the pricing of the Audi Q5 and the Q3. The MSRP on the Q3 is around $32,500, while the Q5 starts at $39,300.

Which One Is Right for Your Adventures?

Whether you choose the Audi Q3 or the Audi Q5 depends on a number of factors. An on-the-go and adventurous family looking to hit the rugged terrain of the South Mountain Reservation may find the features of the Q5 most enticing. For a driver who wants the additional luxury of the Q3's audio connections and keyless entry, the lower MSRP of the Q3 can be a temptation.
